Blitar – A warm and lively atmosphere filled the Iftar Gathering event organized by the Suara Sastra community in collaboration with UPT Bung Karno Library. The event took place at Taman Baca Sumberjo, Sanankulon District, Blitar Regency, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Around 100 attendees participated, including members of various literary and social communities such as Suara Sastra, Ngaji Tani, Sapuan, PKBI, Sanggar Sasmita, and Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP). Local residents also joined the event, which became even more special with the presence of the Head of Sumberjo Village and the Village Secretary.
Collaboration in Literacy and Islamic Discourse
This event was part of the Bung Karno Pelita Bangsa program, an initiative by UPT Bung Karno Library to promote literacy while exploring the thoughts and struggles of Bung Karno. The event was officially opened by Maman Soekrisno, Head of Library Services at the Blitar Regency Department of Library and Archives (Dispusip). In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of literacy in fostering historical awareness and national consciousness.
Additionally, the Head of Sumberjo Village delivered a speech, expressing appreciation for the event, which successfully combined elements of literacy, culture, and Islamic values.
Discussion on Bung Karno and Islam
The main agenda of the event was a discussion titled "Bung Karno and Islam", featuring two distinguished speakers: Galang Suhastra, a co-founder of the Suara Sastra community, and Budi Kastowo from Bung Karno Library.
In his presentation, Galang Suhastra elaborated on how Bung Karno integrated nationalism with Islamic values in his struggle. He highlighted several of Bung Karno's progressive Islamic ideas, emphasizing their relevance in today's context.
Meanwhile, Budi Kastowo provided a historical and literary perspective by discussing Bung Karno’s works on Islamic thought. He also stressed the vital role of libraries in preserving and disseminating the great ideas left behind by the nation’s founding figures.
Poetry Performances and Togetherness
Aside from the discussion, the event featured poetry readings by several participants, touching on themes of nationalism and Islamic values. The atmosphere became even more heartfelt as the poets passionately delivered their works, evoking a strong sense of patriotism and humanity—values deeply upheld by Bung Karno.
As the time for Maghrib approached, participants engaged in casual conversations, strengthening their bonds. When the call to prayer was heard, attendees gathered to break their fast together, sharing a meal in a warm and friendly setting.
